Horse breed : Belgian "Brabant" Draft Horse
The Belgian in Europe today is a massive horse standing from 15.2 hh to 17.2 hh, with most horses standing 16 hh and taller. They are thick set and compact bodied with well sprung ribs, a moderately sloped croup and low set tail. They have stout legs with heavy feather, full tails and double manes. In the last 20 years the trend in breeding is toward a modernized lighter boned and leggier type more suited to carriage driving and riding.

Currently, the most common color is the bay roan, a red bay color with the coat shot through with white hairs to produce a gray to pink/purple appearance from a distance. Other colors include red bay, dark bay, black, chestnut, blue roan, chestnut roan and even occasional gray. At this time, the favored colors in Belgium are chestnut, red bay and black whereas the favored color in the Netherlands is the blue roan.

European Belgians are still gentle giants. They are calm, easy keepers making them very well suited to farm work and logging.
